Objective: To assess the performance of the Medtronic Hall valve (Medtronic, Inc, Minneapolis, Minn) in one institution over a 20-year period.
Conclusion: At 20 years the Medtronic Hall valve demonstrates excellent durability, good hemodynamic performance, and very low thrombogenicity, with a valve thrombosis rate lower than those reported for bileaflet designs.
We used the Medtronic Hall valve because it is the most widely implanted tilting disc valve.
For the Medtronic Hall valve, hypodense artefacts were reduced with prospective triggering at 60 BPM (P = 0.009), 75 BPM (P = 0.016) and 90 BPM (P = 0.001).
For the mechanical PHV, our findings reflected the in vitro experience: we found that the Medtronic Hall valve had a significantly better image quality than Björk-Shiley and Sorin tilting disc valves.

Methods: Since 1979, Medtronic Hall valves have been used in 1766 procedures (736 aortic, 796 mitral, and 234 double).
Within the carbon titanium group, the Carbomedics and ON-X valve scored better than the St Jude and Medtronic Hall valves.
Furthermore, the Carbomedics and ON-X valves had a better image quality than the St Jude and Medtronic Hall valves (Table 1).
Seventy mechanical PHVs of 8 different manufacturers including 50 bileaflet PHVs (20 Carbomedics, 14 St Jude and 16 other PHVs) and 20 tilting disc valves (13 Medtronic Hall valves, 5 Björk-Shiley valves and 2 Sorin monoleaflet valves) were assessed.
We compared adsorbed adhesion ligand type (collagen I, fibronectin, laminin, and purified adhesion domain fragments GFOGER and FN7-10) and concentration on endothelial adhesion rates and adhesion strength on Medtronic-Hall prosthetic valve surfaces.
Unlike conventional HVDC converter stations, due to the restrictions in equipment manufacturing and transportation, UHVDC converter stations adopt such a configuration that each pole has multiple series-connected 12-pulse converters arranged in multiple valve halls (HV-end and LV-end valve halls).
