RECOMMENDED DISHES -- Mussels in spicy coconut broth, lobster and mango salad, mizuna salad with sesame miso vinaigrette, vegetable spring rolls; seared tuna with cherry-cilantro relish, grilled strip steak, slow-roasted halibut; banana tart, chocolate mouse cake.

Worse than either of the meats were the fish: dry, overcooked halibut and overdone skate that had separated into unappealing raggedy strips.
We sampled three fish that were all lightly cooked: halibut with a topper of fresh tomatoes and black olives; blackened stripped bass, Cajun-style, and fillet of sole in a cornmeal crust with a lemon sauce.
On a recent summer evening at the Harbor Café, a burger joint on Valdez's two-block-long waterfront strip, with outdoor tables offering spectacular views of snow-covered mountains, the special was a green salad topped with halibut pulled that day from the sound and grilled.
