That road-tour situation was, to generalize, very classic rock-'n'-roll-guy road tour, very Steven Tyler-esque -- though it should be noted that (a) Steven Tyler is an actual dad, even if he still does those things with his mouth and the microphone that are not terribly dadlike; and that (b) Dan Zanes was always more of a roots-rock pioneer, less Aerosmith and more Buddy Holly, even as a kid.
I had holidays planned to San Francisco and Reykjavik, plus a guys' road trip to the deep south.
"We had a couple of guys road tripping from Texas to Oregon," he said, "and they picked up gigs to pay for gas.
I've come from a working class background, and I went to school with people whose parents gave them everything but they wanted to be these street guys, these road guys; seeing all these super rich kids dressing like shotters.

Dan Baum, for instance, has an interesting new book out, "Gun Guys: A Road Trip".
But he has always had a thing for guns and has just written a book, "Gun Guys: A Road Trip," which is part gun country travelogue and part meditation on what it means to be a gun lover at this particular moment.
"We don't want to give bad guys a road map on how to make bad bugs really bad," he says.
For his new book Gun Guys: A Road Trip, Mr Baum travelled across the US and met a variety of gun owners, from those blasting automatic weapons in the desert to a school teacher hunting pigs.
