After one or two top diamonds, declarer should have tried to guess the position of the club jack and make three tricks in the suit.
Declarer, after winning the spade finesse, could have guessed the position and played the club suit for the loss of one trick by leading a low toward the dummy.
Now the contract appeared to hinge on guessing the diamond position correctly.
Wooldridge cashed dummy's diamond ace, overtook the club jack with his queen, ruffed the diamond queen on the board, came back to hand with a trump, ruffed the diamond jack and returned to his hand with another trump to give this position (see Diagram 1): It was time to guess the heart position.
