We have used FBAwMC [ 17, 22] to predict growth, uptake and excretion rates in S. cerevisiae, E. coli and L. lactis, using the genome-scale metabolic models published in [ 26, 25] and [ 24], respectively.
In the case of both strains upregulation of gene expression coincided with decreases in the rate of growth, uptake of Rb+, membrane potentials, and extracellular pH which dropped to 5.5.
