It returns days later after the company had grown its content team to 10,000 staff and admitted that some content it had hosted "did not accord with core socialist values and was not a good guide for public opinion".
And, as Netflix has grown, its content mix has shifted away from movies (especially first-run movies) and toward TV shows, because that's what its customers were watching.
In total, Starz has grown its content library by over 125percenttoto 5,500 titles in the past 14 months.
Mobile carrier NTT Docomo today announced a move in its strategy to grow its content business outside of its traditional base of Japan: it issued a tender offer to acquire Buongiorno, a mobile content company based in Italy, paying up to ¥24 billion ($300 million) for the assets.
The company has invested in growing its content lineup, and its Prime service does provide customers with access to on-demand video, but Twitch, which provides free content to all comers, integrates less precisely than it would with Google.
Today, competitor Starz says it's doubling down on kids programming, as well, with plans to grow its content selection by more than 60 distinct children's TV series by the end of the year.
In the midst of Amazon's recent moves to rapidly grow its content collection on Amazon Prime Instant Video, the company has also been brokering deals for another one of its video properties: European Netflix competitor LOVEFiLM.
Adconion says that, with the inclusion of over 500 new publisher sites from the Smartclip portfolio, Adconion will significantly grow its content network (current reach is said to be close to 700 million unique users) and expand its footprint to 17 countries worldwide.
The company has also grown its network of content partners to include several big names in the digital arena, such as PBS Kids, Thup Games, and Cupcake Digital.
"Going forward, DOCOMO intends to grow its global content business with a variety of content originally distributed through the company's dmarket® portal in Japan, providing overseas customers with opportunities to enjoy high-quality mobile content from Japan," Docomo writes in its statement.
Alongside cloud services, Amazon has been growing its own content business, developing TV shows and movies.
