SEATTLE — A state appeals court here in Washington, in a major ruling on the "stand your ground" debate over personal safety, said Thursday that a defendant who successfully uses a self-defense claim is entitled to reimbursement for lost wages and other costs, as well as legal fees.
This is the "stand-your-ground" debate, where [the laws in some states] say, "No, it's his fault, and if he's threatening you, you don't have to retreat".
Because it is so often completely divorced from real evidence and the needs of real people, today's common ground debate is similar to the constant talk about "bipartisanship".
