A FedEx spokeswoman said that the company paid all parking tickets for vehicles assigned to its FedEx Express air-courier service, but that many FedEx trucks in New York City are part of its FedEx ground division, which contracts with private companies to deliver its packages.
In lieu of hourly truck drivers, it would use independent contractors in its FedEx Ground division, paid for results but responsible for their own vehicles, fuel and overhead.
For example, it actually acts as the delivery agent for almost one-third of the packages shipped through FedEx's ground division.
Michael Peterson, the director of the buildings and grounds division at St . Edwards University in Austin, said that if Austin went to once-a-week watering, which could happen in late summer if there is not significant rainfall, he hoped to be allowed to continue running sprinklers twice a week, as he does now.
In the Kop and around the ground, the divisions were put aside to focus on one common enemy.
Michael P. Biagi, who oversees the parking and ground transportation divisions at Los Angeles International Airport, where police officers at an entrance checkpoint made random searches of car trunks this morning, said there was "an enhanced police presence" today.

"I don't think that even if we were to go in on the ground, armored divisions, with flags unfurled, I don't think we would do anything more than push this problem further to the right," Dempsey said.
