Regarding the differences across the grassland types under current (i.e. normal) conditions, greenish areas mark the mean seasonal soil moisture close to field capacity (cf., Table I, Table IV).
Iron (Fe), although present mostly due to use of umbers, is also significantly present in these greenish tinted areas, and so it is possible that Magritte used not only umbers and black to model the cave, but also other green and/or blue pigments containing Cr, Co, Sn and Fe.
