Our microarray results were validated by real-time RT-PCR The X. laevis homologues of the X. tropicalis cDNAs recognised by the oligonucleotides (http://informatics.gurdon.cam.ac.uk/cgi-bin/public.exe) were identified by BLAST searches (Table 1), and PCR primers were designed for the great majority of the transcripts that were considered to be differentially expressed.
The functional significance of the great majority of these transcripts is unknown, and it has been argued that they may primarily represent "transcriptional noise" (Struhl 2007).
The great majority of Upr-transcripts, 91%, were upregulated to a greater extent in P.a.-than P.a.-than K.p.-infected K.p.-infected
We observed that a great majority of the upregulated transcripts were transposable elements (Fig. 4), with a smaller number of protein-coding genes and other transcripts.
The great majority of the alpha-gliadin transcripts showed an A-genomic signature with normalised transcript abundances for UPFs that ranged from 99 in the elite durum wheat variety 'IXOs9442', to 76 and 80 in 'CIM-10204', a line from the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT), and in line 'CGN08006-2B' respectively (Additional file 1: Table S1).
These 'non-edits' were present in only a few cDNAs (two and three for cob and cox3, respectively), suggesting that the great majority of cDNAs represent mature transcripts.
However, the great majority of spidroin sequences represent partial transcripts that span either the N-terminal or C-terminal coding region adjacent to downstream or upstream repetitive sequence, respectively.
The great majority of the top-hits of the assembled transcripts had significant similarity with sequences of Maylandia zebra, Oreochromis niloticus, Takifugu rubripes, Oryzias latipes and Dicentrarchus labrax.
This study included an analysis of the sequences of 20,857 transcripts from 18,191 human genes, including the great majority of those that encode proteins.
