Contig sequences from Salmo salar (Atlantic salmon), Oncorhynchus mykiss (rainbow trout), Osmerus mordax (rainbow smelt), Coregonus clupeaformis (lake whitefish), Salvelinus fontinalis (brook trout), and Thymallus thymallus (grayling) [Table 2] were BLASTed against each other (evalue < 1e-35, hits > 100bp) and the results used to generate clusters of contigs.
In other salmonid species the proportion of loci for which sequences were successfully obtained ranged from 12% in grayling to 60% in brown trout (Table 1b).
Comparative data from chinook salmon, sockeye salmon, brook trout, grayling, lake whitefish and rainbow smelt are provided in Table 3. Overall, these data provide support for extensive gene coverage in salmonid EST databases.
