The following loci deviated significantly (P < 0.005) from HWE: Vx05 and Vx06 deviated in all three populations; Vx10 and Vx13 deviated in the Osório and Praia Grande populations; and Vx02 and Vx04 deviated in the Orleans population (Table 2).
Ilha Grande Brazil Population: 5,000 Ilha Grande, before it was a tourist destination, was a leper colony.
Campina Grande (estimated population: 386,000) is an industrialised city in northeast Brazil and is divided into six administrative districts.
The Upper Grande Ronde population, in particular, is currently at extremely low abundance (geometric mean spawner number = 38 for the last 10 years), with a very low recent productivity (mean productivity = 0.42).
The initial colonizers on the small islands would have quickly expanded and retained much of their genetic variation, although the allelic patterns are sufficiently distinct to make them genetically separable from the Grande Terre population.
Concerning the P. sundbergi populations from the northern group of Praslin, La Digue and associated islands, i.e., P. sundbergi sundbergi and P. s. ladiguensis, they form two slightly divergent mtDNA clades, in agreement with their morphological variation: Praslin and Curieuse populations in one clade and La Digue and Grande Soeur populations in the other clade.
Interestingly, Stoll Island is mixed into Grande Terre populations but given the geographical location and its proximity to the main island (about 20 m), the mice might have originated from there. Figure 5 provides a summary diagram showing the genetic structure of all sampling sites on the Kerguelen Archipelago.
The mean MOI for each P. falciparum population (Grande Comore, Moheli, Anjouan, Mayotte, and Marseille) was then calculated.
