"grammar checker" is a correct and usable term in written English. You can use it whenever you are referring to an automated program or tool used to help detect and correct errors in grammar and spelling. For example, "I ran my essay through a grammar checker to make sure I didn't have any errors."
OpenOffice has no grammar checker (of course, some would consider that a bonus, not a liability).
