According to Chris Aniszczyk, CTO and COO at CNCF, a graduated project reflects the overall maturity where it has reached a tipping point in terms of diversity of contribution, community and adoption.
As the Table shows, the median graduated project had more than twice as many developers active on the mailing list as did retired projects.
Today, CNCF announced that the Prometheus monitoring and alerting tool had joined Kubernetes as the second "graduated" project in the organization's history.
Furthermore, only graduated projects had future core members who posted on the mailing list during incubation.
However, as we noted above, graduated projects have more developers and so would be expected to have more communication for that reason.
