Normally, the grading of these sheets is carried out to insure that only high quality sheets are used to make high quality boards.
Nonfiber fillers for printing and writing grades paper may comprise 10% of sheet weight or more, but these highly filled grades represent a relatively small fraction of the industry's output of paper and paperboard.

A further approach to the manufacture of parts with functionally graded areas is the use of sheet metal blanks as another semi-finished product.
In order to satisfy the requirements of productivity and quality, in recent years, LASER welding processes of certain grades of steels mainly thin sheets assemblies or tailored welded blanks (TWBs) have given many successful advantages in manufacturing engineering.
In general, base items consist of fabricated steel, iron castings such as bathtubs and stoves, or, for kitchenware, a good grade of low-carbon sheet iron formed in the shape of the utensil by pressing or drawing, by spinning, and by trimming, with handles, spouts, and ears welded in place.
Most of these rocks crop out as blocks-in-mélange termed "high-grade blocks" (Coleman and Lanphere 1971).These blocks are higher in metamorphic grade than surrounding matrix, whereas rare intact fault-bounded sheets of these rocks are found ("high-grade coherent sheets" of Wakabayashi et al. 2010; "csch/vfa" on Fig. 2).
Data from the record sheet survey were used to determine the duration of time required and grades of staff undertaking each activity and costed as described above.
Trace element and radiogenic isotopic data suggests that the high-grade coherent rocks and blocks-in-mélange have nascent island-arc protoliths (Wakabayashi et al. 2010), whereas lower grade coherent sheets of Franciscan metavolcanic rocks display ocean island basalt (OIB), or mid-ocean ridge (MORB), geochemical affinity (Shervais 1990; Ghatak et al. 2012).
