These problems can manifest themselves as stiffness related problems such as critical velocity issues (Surface Wave Velocity, Rayleigh Wave Velocity) or, sub-grade erosion resulting in high rates of deterioration in the vertical track geometry.
At 8 weeks after ACLT, severe erosion in both medial and lateral femoral condyles was observed in the control group; 75%% of the condyles were graded "erosion".
At the same time, in the ADSC group, near normal cartilage or fibrillation was observed; only 25%% of the condyles were graded "erosion".
Grading erosion present plays a part in the assessment of the problem, the need for treatment and, potentially, may indicate means for prevention of further tooth wear.
Al Malik et al. [ 5] have also shown that while grading erosion from visual and photographic records gave comparable scores, the degree of erosion was underestimated compared with the degree of tooth wear determined histologically.
In summary, arthritis characterized by mild synovitis, bone marrow edema with a predilection for the lunate bone, mild effusions, and low-grade erosions is a clinically underestimated but frequent, genuine feature of SSc.
Grade IV: Erosion of cartilage down to bone.
In all these indexes, the criteria to record the grading for erosion differed [ 26].
Corresponding results for grade 2 erosions (11% to 20% of bone volume eroded) were 42%, 10%, 60 % and 24, and for grade 3 erosions (21% to 30% of bone volume eroded) 75%, 67%, 75% and 100%.
This aspect is further supported by our results as grade 3 erosions were always detected in the 5th MCP joint.
Each tooth surface was scored, with six grades of erosion severity modelled from Smith and Knight [ 30]; the index and its criteria are complicated and time consuming.
