Over the years, I've loved Sherry Yard's chocolate musings at Spago and Nancy Silverton's thick, gorgeous chocolate pudding.
I love the combination of Christmas pudding and gorgeous thick custard and it required an iron will to limit yourself to one spoonful.
We finished with a gorgeous (though pale) caramel pudding involving banana panna cotta, a cigar shape of caramel mousse and a spindrift of popcorn granita – a bit of a fiddle, but charming – and a cheese board accompanied by apple and celery sorbet.
And their puddings are gorgeous: the one that sticks in my mind is a buttermilk panna cotta with caramelised white chocolate, malt flakes and poached rhubarb – that was just lovely.
Almost all of the entrees I had — including an excellent salt-crusted duck (with caramelized sunchokes) and a pork shoulder (with cornbread pudding) that was gorgeous one visit, dry the next — were generously portioned.
Fortunately for me I was here twice, so on the second visit I managed a few tastes of dessert: Champagne jelly with citrus is a gorgeous palate-cleanser; sticky toffee pudding, rich and dense; and peanut butter shortbread with salty ice cream, kind of ideal.

Because (as I'm sure you knew) coing means quince, blended here with elderflower and white cherries; the combination of pudding, fruit, chestnuts and wine was gorgeous.
The ragù is gorgeous, so make lots of it and freeze; or use any leftover black pudding for frying and tossing into a chicory and pear salad with a honeyed vinaigrette.
