Hollywood types are used to going on location, says Amy Lemisch, the director of the California Film Commission, a state body that tries to retain film production.
With production schedules of just days or weeks at most, television crews often do not have the luxury of going on location to shoot a scene, or waiting for the clouds to return to give successive shots a seamless look.
Instead of going on location to shoot original material, as he did for the first two films, Mr. Reggio plans to create a visual symphony of existent footage, gleaned from a multitude of stock sources.
It took Framestore four months of work to create the lifelike Audrey Hepburn, for just 60 seconds of advert, and managed it by using a combination of old photographs and a body double to build an accurate CG digital form of everything from her skin to her eyelashes – even going on location to get the lifelike light and shadow.
One of the issues they saw over and over was in the way that listings were created, which usually involved an agent going on location, taking photos with a point-and-shoot camera and then returning to an office to import them to a computer, all before a listing could be created.
I like going on location for films.
