Her liver and spleen had bulged to more than four times their normal size, but "no one could figure out what was going on," recalls Wang, a biochemical geneticist who directs the hospital's program for a group of rare inherited metabolic disorders that are notoriously difficult to diagnose.
"At first I couldn't imagine what was going on," recalled Mr. Leogrande, the president of the Empire Access Multiple Listing Service.
"I put on my reggae hat with braids so nobody would recognise me and drove into the city to see what was going on," recalls King.
