a Global refinement of 2 and b global refinement of 4. Large uncertainties exist in thermal conductivity and heat production rate measurements; a Monte Carlo approach is introduced to study how those uncertainties affect thermal structure results.
We investigate a method that can hide unwanted control points from the user so that the user's interaction is with local, rather than global, refinement.
This means that a request to insert a single new control point will cause a row of control points to appear across the NURBS patch, a global refinement of control.
Computational results demonstrating the performance of the adaptive procedure on linear and nonlinear problems and apparent convergence of the error estimate for linear heat conduction problem and uniform global refinement is presented.
Because refinements are only performed when and where necessary, this method is able to improve the boundary description quality of the optimal result with much less design variables as compared with the case of global refinement, and therefore can greatly reduce the computational burden involved in the sensitivity analysis and optimization process.
Through the numerical computation of function optimization, the algorithm can adaptively subdivide the model geometry, automatically detect self-collision of the model, properly modify its topology (because of the occurrence of self-collision), continuously evolve the model towards the object boundary, and reduce fitting error and improve fitting quality via global refinement.
The proposed meta-models incorporate a three-layered advantage over the conventional ones, which are, global refinement of the basis functions, enabled with compressive sampling based methods based on ℓ0- and ℓ1-norms (p-adaptivity) and integrated with an optimal sequential experimental design scheme (h-adaptivity).

As a result, a global refinement value defines the model resolution.
In practice, an increased resolution rendered by a global refinement value of 7 does not seem to have noticeable changes on the results.
