In some ways it's surprising that an innovation like Tinder happened, given that the app was developed in a start-up lab funded by IAC/InterActiveCorp, the American company that also owns the phenomenally successful sites match.com and OkCupid.
Given that the app is superior to hailing a cab and paying for service in most U.S. cities, consumers flock to the service and fall in love.
The reception has been limited, given that the app's built on the platforms have been skewed toward visualization only and pretty much suck as a result.
With social, given that the app's value is the network itself, it's hard to test demand before building that network; but to build the network, you need demand.
The other thing I'm not crazy about is PopKey's decision to watermark all the GIFs available through its service, but this was done to encourage viral uptake, which is understandable given that the app is free.
However, given that the app is starting off with support for Gmail and Google Apps on Windows computers, Mailbird will probably get the chance to fly.
That could change, though, given that the app's screenshots show the Union Square store in San Francisco as the example in the image depicting appointment scheduling.
But given that the app is not free – it's $1.00 – that's decent traction for something that only runs on Android Wear-based watches.
The Holy Grail of hyperlocal advertising is an untapped opportunity, too, given that the app already boasts over half a million users.
But it's a quick and positive outcome for the founders, especially given that the app launched less than six months ago.
