"given premises" is a correct and usable phrase in written English.
It is often used in academic or analytical writing to refer to information or assumptions that have been established or accepted as true in a specific argument or discussion. Example: "Given the premises that all men are mortal and Socrates is a man, it can be logically concluded that Socrates is mortal."
Haidt's "reasoning" corresponds to what Plato calls dianoia, the process of logically deriving conclusions from given premises.
