Big Poppa is my alternate personality, I was given it for having a walking cane.
Yet, it may be beneficial to think of how many times you as an adult have started something (say exercise - morning walk) and given it all up.
Only reserve this for an emergency though, such as going to the vet at the last minute or evacuating the house, as you don't want to let your dog down frequently by not giving it a walk, as it'll fail to respond soon.
Then, start by just walking it around the house a little, giving it treats whenever it walks at your side and doesn't pull on the leash.
If s/he ignores you, give it up and walk away.
