Getting the software setup was a bit of a problem.
Since multiformat support is just a matter of getting the software right, what tends to happen is that a standard, commodity firmware emerges for these devices that just works for just about everything, and the formats vanish into the background.
First, there is the question of getting the software to run on as wide a variety of computers as possible, so as to maximise the number of machines available.
