If they get married off-post and one of them is killed defending her country, the surviving spouse will get no benefits and have no other spousal rights.

In a country where nearly half of all girls are married before they're 18, Rajasthan has one of the highest numbers of child brides in India with 74 per cent of girls getting married off before they turn 18.
"I dropped out of school and got married off at an early age when I lost my mother, who was paying my school charges at that time," says Marie.

"In the strictest term, I think it means that you go off and get married on your own, with whatever parties are necessary to make it legitimate and legal – perhaps to some exotic location, but that's not necessary".
