IF you fly high above Peru's parched southern coast, you'll see one of the world's enduring mysteries, the Nazca lines: geometric shapes and renderings of animals and plants, some of them miles long, scratched into the surface of the desert.
These paintings include geometric shapes, crude renderings of animals, hand prints, and hand stencils.
Mr. Bhavsar's paintings can initially seem like simple renderings of feathery-edged geometric shapes — mostly squares within squares or rectangles.
In other renderings he lays down roughly geometric patches of vivid color or black and white that make tectonic shifts in the Cubist grid, as in a small, dense 1960 collage with ink where reds, blacks and whites predominate.
Mr. Childs intended to take the concept of geometric abstraction even further and prepared a set of models, drawings and computer renderings to that end.
