This, together with the clear correlation between genomic overrepresentation and uptake efficiency, suggests that mutations and DNA uptake bias result in a force sufficient enough to allow DUES gradual evolution by accumulation of point mutations in susceptible parts of the genome (i.e., by molecular drive).
