Proteomics (the study of protein profiles associated with the genome), patterns of gene activity, and genomics (the study of the genome itself) can be used to identify molecular tumour signatures and thereby enable tumours to be classified on the basis of the molecular defects that cause them.
We propose that introns are not merely genomic relics on their way out of the yeast genome; patterns of intron prevalence in essential and nonessential genes suggest that, at least in nonribosomal protein genes, introns appear to be actively maintained for their functional importance.
In addition, the RFLP pattern revealed that such ancestral landraces consist of a local subgroup, and have similar genome patterns, with a mixture of 'Kasalath'- and 'Nipponbare'-type RFLP polymorphisms (Fig. 2).
A more complete diagnostic approach would be to include multiple probes per genotype; this would also provide deeper epidemiological insights in functional genome patterns and variations, i.e. mutations coding for drug resistance [25].
Because S. tropicalis spleens are small and a large amount of RNA is needed for whole genome assays, our ability to assay whole genome patterns of expression in the spleen was limited.
For example, in a study screening 746 multiple myelomas by SNP arrays, only 10 cases with chromothripsis-like genome patterns were detected [ 14].
