Here we make use of recently available metagenomic datasets from studies of over two-dozen terrestrial hydrothermal systems in Yellowstone National Park (YNP) and Great Boiling Springs, Nevada, USA (GBS) (Fig. 1) to understand how patterns of gene and genome flow have shaped community architecture.

In this study, we have employed two cytogenetic approaches to define the zebrafish genome: flow karyotype analysis and chromosomal mapping by fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH).

Our findings in X. birchmanni and X. malinche support the latter conclusion and suggest that hybrid incompatibilities may be a common mechanism of restricting gene flow genome-wide even in species with incomplete reproductive isolation.
