The tRNAScanSE tool (Lowe and Eddy 1997) was used to find transfer ribonucleic acid (tRNA) genes, whereas ribosomal RNA (rRNA) genes were found by searches against models of the rRNA genes built from SILVA (Pruesse et al. 2007).
In non-model organisms in particular, it is critical to have genes built from the species being studied, as closely related well-annotated species might not be available.
