In the second group, the mouse-related clade and Ctenohystrica have the majority of generic divergences and SDR through the Neogene.
The first group is characterized by older generic divergences and a higher density SDR through the Paleogene and this is also attested by the richness and occurence of the fossil record of Gliroidea [ 123- 125], Aplodontoidea [ 126, 127] and Castorimorpha [ 102].
Thus, we suggest 15 20% of the inter-generic divergence as a justifiable estimate of the divergence between the two white rhino taxa.
A subsequent study by some of the same authors, with a higher sample of individuals and additional restriction enzymes, estimated the mtDNA divergence between the two white rhinos at 1.4%, and the inter-generic divergence at 4.5% [14].
The observed patterns of divergence and consistency of divergence ratios between taxa across analysed segments, justify the use of the estimated inter-generic divergence in assessing the divergence time of white rhino subspecies.
The divergence between the white rhino taxa as a percentage of the inter-generic divergence observed in previous studies were: for allozymes 1.6% [12], and for mtDNA 57% [15], 31% [14] and 15.4% [16].
Inter-generic divergences ranged from 11.8% between Gracilaria salicornia and Gracilariopsis longissima to 14.6% between G. salicornia and Gracilariopsis chorda.
Although several powerful and precise results on the divergence of generic Feynman diagrams already exist [14], in relation to both the group and the structure of the graph Γ, it is clear that the divergences of a Feynman diagram are not related only to the topology of the bubbles but are indeed intertwined with the topology of the dual of the graph Γ.
Our ability to detect this relationship may result from our use of a large, diverse expression compendium and a more generic measurement of expression divergence.
In sum, our wide-ranging survey of expression profiles and generic metric of expression divergence allowed us to identify both global and local aspects of regulatory evolution and relate these to sequence divergence.
