Mr Salmond told BBC Scotland: "After the Olympics and the football World Cup, this is the biggest watched event on the planet and coming to Scotland, all this excitement, all this enthusiasm, this massive generation of atmosphere - you can feel and taste it now, it's going to be massive, huge, or, as they say in America, awesome".
Problems include the Hadley circulation and its role in the general circulation, atmospheric waves including gravity and Rossby waves and their interaction with the mean flow, with specific applications to the stratospheric quasi-biennial oscillation, tides, the super-rotation of Venus' atmosphere, the generation of atmospheric turbulence, and stationary waves among other problems.
These challenges include the controlled in situ generation of exposure atmospheres, the compositions of which are often process-determined and metastable.
The outstanding importance of particle size and mass for the deposition efficiency highlights the importance of a controlled and stable generation of particulate atmospheres as well as the behavior of such particles in an exposure device.
Another probable means for the local temporary neutralization of the influence of atmospheric oxidizers during ball lightning formation is the accidental simultaneous process of the generation of a reducing atmosphere of additional gas reductants—hydrogen, carbon monoxide, hydrogen sulphide etc.
