The present cross-sectional study examines the association between general practice utilisation and secondary care outpatient clinics utilisation among the elderly.
Because there are no agreed-upon research criteria for primary care patients with MUS[ 34], it can be argued that the themes we have generated might relate to frequent attending in general, high utilisation of care in general, medically unexplained symptoms in general, or some other common characteristic of the sample that may be unrelated to either.
Alternatively, this finding could suggest that women choosing different models of maternity care also hold different values and approaches to CAM use, an issue identified in more general CAM utilisation research [ 2] but still requiring further investigation in relation to maternity care [ 32].
