We reviewed the patient clinical and pathological parameters, including age, gender, procedures, mean tumor diameter, extent of tumor extension, cervical LN metastasis status, and the presence of tumor recurrence (Table 1).

This does not allow for more in-depth analysis of the possible causes of the gender-derived differences, and explanations must be found based only on the variables included in the database (gender, age, procedures, co-morbidity and main diagnosis).
The authors discuss that it might be justifiable to use the circulating testosterone level as an endocrinological parameter, to try to arrive at an objective criterion in evaluating what separates women and men in sports competitions, which could prevent the initiation of complicated, lengthy and damaging sex and gender verification procedures.
