The effectiveness of GC design was examined by comparing uniformly doped (UD) devices with GC devices of various L1/L2 ratios and doping concentrations and it was found that GC devices offer superior characteristics as compared to the UD devices.
Although slight linearity degradation is observed in both the conventional and the GC devices when reducing the channel length, the HD presented by the GC transistor is significantly lower than the one showed by conventional device for any studied channel length.
The quantitative evaluation of dicarboxylic acids, including azelaic acid, may be performed using high-performance liquid chromatography with evaporative light-scattering detector (HPLC-ELSD) device (17) and many gas chromatography (GC) devices.
To measure the effectiveness of SPME as compared to classic solvent extraction, the SPME fibre was gently rubbed on the head, thorax, wings, abdomen and genitalia of the fly; the fibre was then inserted into the GC-MS device while the fly was immediately plunged into solvent and its whole-body composition revealed by GC-MS (Fig. 2A).
Particularly, no correlation was found with the ratio of the two principal cuticular pheromones: 7-T and 7-P, nor with either the percentage or the absolute amount of any other minor secondary compounds between 23 carbons and 29 carbons detected on their cuticle with a GC-MS device (not shown).
The two data sets were run on the same GC-MS device, but with different capillary columns and slightly different temperature programs.
The third step of the identification of the compound was performed by comparing the mass spectra obtained during analysis of the samples, using a GC-MS device, after derivatisation with a silylating reagent, as mentioned above.
To identify the products, the gas chromatography (GC) device was used.
The calibration was performed by direct injection of diluted standard solutions into GC or HPLC devices, and the regressions of peak areas against concentrations were calculated (R2 > 0.9998).
The work reported here includes the study of innovative pre-concentration materials, the micromachining of GC components and devices, the fabrication and characterization of complete system prototypes, and the development of application-specific control electronics.
