We obtained gaseous pollutant data, specifically carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide, ozone, and sulfur dioxide data, from the EPA Aerometric Information Retrieval System Database.
Daily levels of ambient air pollution over the study period are presented in Table 2. Gaseous pollutant data were available for the entire study period (1992 to 2002), while daily particulate matter data were only available from 1998 onwards.
There were no significant associations of HRV with gaseous pollutants (data not shown).
Daily PM2.5, PM10, and gaseous pollutant data [sulfur dioxide (SO2, 24 hr), nitrogen dioxide (NO2, 24 hr), and ozone (O3, 8 hr)] were provided by monitoring networks in each participating city.
