It's still punky and – Young's favourite musical self-definition – primitive, but the musical accents are slightly different, harking more to their cover of the garage standard Sometimes Good Guys Don't Wear White than the Ramonic tendencies of their debut (their version, in a deliberate nod, was actually a cover of a cover – of Minor Threat's version rather than the Standells' original).
Their song Gloria became a garage punk standard (and was later covered by Patti Smith) as did I Can Only Give You Everything.
Them, with their vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Van Morrison, had a series of hits with "Baby Please Don't Go" (1964), which reached the top 10 in the UK, and "Here Comes the Night" (1965), which made the top 40 in the U.S., but perhaps their most enduring legacy was the B-side "Gloria", which became a garage rock standard.
Early forms of hard rock can be heard in The Kingsmen's version of "Louie Louie" (1963), which made it a garage rock standard, and the songs of rhythm and blues influenced British Invasion acts, including "You Really Got Me" by The Kinks (1964), "My Generation" by The Who (1965), "Shapes of Things" (1966) by The Yardbirds and "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" (1965) by The Rolling Stones.
