As a result, the celebrity-laden sketch comedy site has become an oasis of financial success in an online video industry still dominated by garage directors struggling to make premium content.
"It is so very, very different from other magazines," said Garage's art director, Mike Meiré, who is also the art director of the influential German magazine 032c.
"It's never easy from a political point of view to tell people or companies to leave their vehicles in the garage," said Jos Dings, the director of Transport & Environment, an environmental group based in Brussels.
Shala Monroque, the oh-so-chic creative director of Garage magazine, wore her large oval cameo throughout the recent fashion shows: in New York, on a white V-neck top to punch up a denim skirt and navy blazer; in London, on a black trench (far left); in Paris, on a pale blue crew neck.
It's jointly run by major incubation company Digital Garage (where Ito is Director of the Board), Kakaku.com (whose eponymous price engine is Japan's biggest) and e-commerce firm Netprice.
Longtime friends Ty Segall, now an established garage rock musician, and director Matt Yoka met in the dorms of their freshman year at University of San Francisco.
More than 10,000 artists worldwide, ranging from garage bands to established directors and actors, and about 4,500 fans have joined the site.
Trae Cyrus, the purchasing director for Gourmet Garage markets in Manhattan, said prices are not decreasing by any great amount because of Ocean Spray.
"It's a smart decision for the Exit but a bummer for the rest of us because the Fringe gave us a break from self-producing," said Joe Landini, the artistic director of the Garage, a black-box theater in SoMa that presented Fringe shows in previous years.
