We found that the magnitude of the lacunarity statistic was strongly associated with canopy cover (R2 = 0.85) and gap volume (R2 = 0.84), while the pattern of decline in lacunarity across discrete measurement scales was related to many size- and density-related attributes of stand and canopy structure (0.27 ≤ R2 ≤ 0.58) and their diverse vertical and horizontal spatial distributions.
The stronger of these two gradients reflected the continuous variation in canopy cover and gap volume, while a second, more subtle gradient was associated with the array of possible vertical and horizontal spatial configurations that might define any one measure of canopy cover.
Although the interface accessible area and gap volume are still quite small (1122±60 Å2 and 3611±332 Å3, respectively) these values are likely more influenced by the size of the domain than gap volume index and planarity.
The Gap volume index (GVi) provides a measure of the tightness of a protein-protein complex [13].
In particular, the gap volume index is much lower (1.62±0.23 Å) and planarity much higher (3.79±0.31 Å) than observed in ED dimers.
Six interfacial parameters were selected corresponding to ASA, Gap volume, percentage of charged residues, number of segments, hydrogen bonds and total volume pockets.
