The Ganges Dependent Area (GDA) in Bangladesh (see Fig. 2) was particularly rich in these resources prior to the massive interventions by the States of India and Bangladesh over the past half century.
Three government interventions in the Ganges Dependent Area and the Gorai River Basin are mainly responsible for the human rights violations noted above, as a consequence of their cumulative impact on the flow of water over the past several decades.
The Farakka Barrage is an example of this which had established in 1975 and has had spatial and temporal effects in the Ganges Dependent Area in Bangladesh (Bharati and Jayakody 2011; Sarker 2004; Swain 1996).
The implementation of this NRLP is likely to cause ecological disasters and local community economic vulnerabilities for the rest of Bangladesh like the Farakka Barrage effects on Ganges Dependent Area in Bangladesh.
Chapra is located within the Ganges Dependent Area (GDA) in Bangladesh which, in turn, is located within the Ganges Brahmaputra Basin (GBB), one of the largest river basins in the world by area and second only to the Amazon in terms of the total volume of water it carries (see Fig. 1).
The second pandemic began in 1827, also in the Ganges delta area, and spread across Asia, up through Europe and across Germany to the port city of Hamburg.
The Ganges-Yamuna area was once densely forested.
Among these, the Koshi river basin has an exceptionally high sediment-carrying capacity; although, it comprises only 5% of the Ganges river basin area, it contributes nearly 25% of the total sediment load (Sharma [1997]).
For example, the Ganges delta region in India and Bangladesh has a rapidly growing population and is one of the most densely populated areas of the world.
The general slope direction is from NW to SE. River Kali, a small tributary of River Ganges, flows through the area from NW to SE. River Kali is a perennial river fed by baseflow all along its length within the study area and beyond.
