It is a £25m new build on Whitworth Street in Manchester with two theatres, five cinemas, a gallery, education facilities, café bar and restaurant.
The 27,000-square-foot museum also has new temporary-exhibition galleries, educational facilities, a new stairway linking the first and second floors, an elevator and wheelchair accessibility.
At the 20 acre site – which like the Cornerhouse will be triangular but without the leaky roof – £25m has been set aside for a 500-seat theatre, a second smaller performance space, five cinemas, galleries, broadcast facilities, a restaurant and offices.
Work on the new galleries and facilities, being built about a mile-and-a-half (2.4 km) west of the stones, began in July.
The hotel also has a gallery and spa facilities.
The R4 is slated become an art-world microcosm of sorts, with artists' studios, gallery spaces, production facilities and exhibition halls.

The campaign identified three arts buildings: the Yates Memorial Centre, the Bowman Arts Centre, and the Southern Alberta Art Gallery as cornerstone facilities in the community requiring care and attention.
Through a program called Art for Health, the hospital is acquiring a collection of about 145 works of original art to be exhibited in 11 new gallery spaces throughout the facility.
The $46 million expansion will include new art gallery space, new education facilities for families and the renovation of an existing theater.
