Barlow spent his childhood on his family's cattle ranch in Wyoming, and he later attended Fountain Valley School of Colorado, where he became friends with Bob Weir, future guitarist for the Grateful Dead.
The film pays credit where it's due: Meek's achievements owed much to his long-suffering musicians, including a future guitarist of Deep Purple; half of Chas and Dave (played by an affably gangling Ralf Little); and bullishly no-nonsense drummer Clem Cattini (James Corden, presumably filmed before overexposure did for him, and all the more likeable for it).
The band then developed its first promo, featuring two songs, "Shroud of Encryption" and "Festering Vomitous Mass", which was produced by former and future guitarist Braxton Henry.

A longtime friend of the Rolling Stones, Womack produced a 1975 solo album by future Stones guitarist Ron Wood and sang on the band's Dirty Work (1986).
