"We were playing a lot of these places because they want to see music, and they agree with a lot of the things that we agree with," said Chad Neptune, who plays bass in Further Seems Forever.
But the bands secured by Revelation Farms' owners, Robert and Kim Grom, including the hard-rocking Skillet and the MTV-approved Further Seems Forever, were, for New Jersey, a start -- and a nod toward the Creation Festival held near Pittsburgh each June.
Many are on the Seattle-based Tooth & Nail label, home to Anberlin as well as the Christian bands Further Seems Forever (whose original singer is now in Dashboard Confessional), Mae, Zao and Starflyer 59.
Long before a sold-out Madison Square Garden concert seemed possible, Dashboard Confessional was merely a side project; Mr. Carrabba's main job was leading Further Seems Forever, a Christian punk band from Florida.
Now that Further Seems Forever, for example, has become one of the latest bands to break out of the Christian scene, the group has stopped performing at Christian-only clubs (though it sometimes still plays at the festivals).
Two bands later, William Sanchez, 18 and wearing a Led Zeppelin T-shirt, hung back as the people around him pumped their fists and fashioned hallelujah poses to the bright power-pop chords of Further Seems Forever from Pompano Beach, Fla. "It's still hard for Christian music to compete with secular rock," he said.
Alternative bands such as Atlantic Records ' P.O.D., Sony 's Chevelle and Tooth And Nail's Further Seems Forever, Playdough and Starflyer 59 consistently garner critical and popular acclaim with industry stalwarts MTV, Rolling Stone and Spin.
