The cognition composite score(Begemann et al, 2011) represents the mean of 3 z-standardized neuropsychological measures of higher cognitive functioning: reasoning ability (Leistungsprüfsystem subtest 3; Horn, 1983), executive functioning (Trail-Making Test B; Reitan, 1958) and verbal learning and memory (Verbal Learning and Memory Test; Helmstaedter et al, 2001).
However, white matter hyperintensity correlated with domain scores for language (Boston naming) and executive functioning (Trails B).
Of interest in the present study are tests that measure general cognition (Mini-mental state exam (MMSE)), episodic memory (Logical memory story A delayed recall (LM-II), Rey auditory verbal learning test (AVLT)), language (Category fluency, Boston naming test (BNT)) and executive functioning (Trails A and B).
