The MSG stabilizer also showed good performance regarding both data misfit and model recovery from synthetic data inversion with sharp boundaries.
In this section, we evaluate the relation between the seismic moment, which is calculated as the product of the asperity area and the plate convergence rate, and that estimated from geodetic data inversion.
The inferred fault parameters (217°, 48°, 49°) are in reasonable agreement with those resulting from the inversions of long-period seismic waves (209°, 59°, 50°) as well as from GPS data inversion (200°, 45°, 42°).
Source parameters inferred from GPS data inversion (see (see Fig. 2 and the 'Preliminary GPS model' section) for details) and seismic waveform inversion (Lee et al. 2014) were reported soon after its occurrence.
We notice that the best constrained GPS displacements through the fault plane inferred from strain data inversion are the ones located in the azimuthal coverage of the strainmeter sites (e.g., stations KNKO, NHSI, or even PING, see Fig. 6 a).
The time required for the CMT estimation using the near-field regional seismic data is expected to be shorter than that from the teleseismic data inversion.
The fault plane inferred from the strain data inversion encompasses almost all of the aftershocks when the fault planes inferred from seismology and GPS inversions encompass about 90 95 % and 80 85 % of these events, respectively (see Fig. 9).
Error bars for the depth estimation of every topographic surface on the 3D model are discussed on Appendix A. We present a new 3-D model of the Chicxulub Crater from the gravity data inversion, constrained by marine seismic and land boreholes.
Therefore, error floors are necessary to reflect the reality of working with MT data: intrinsic complexities and necessary approximations in the MT method, from data acquisition to data inversion, make it impossible to perfectly model real data.
It has been shown that this new scheme is advantageous in terms of computational efficiency, stability, and convergence than the existing schemes that solve for the characteristic inverse parameters of a sheet/dike model from gravity data inversions.
