Relevant articles were identified by searching the following databases from the first date available until August 2014: Ovid MEDLINE; Ovid EMBASE; PubMed; Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, and Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials.
Electronic databases were searched (Embase, Web of Science and Medline) from the first date available in each database up to 18 September 2012 using the search terms "5-HT", "5-HTT", "SERT", "serotonin", "transporter", "SLC6A4", "5-HTTLPR", "antidepressant", "SSRI", "SRI" or "reuptake inhibitor".
