Hydrogen entered at the center of the cell and exited through the ends, where it was removed from the beamline by a multistage pumping system.
The following four items have been used as the characterization of the beam: neutron yield from the beamline, beam divergence, heat load on the beamline components and beam profile on the armor plate in the tokamak vacuum vessel.
It is built around a client server infrastructure allowing scientists to use facility resources while located at a beamline or remotely, operating on live data streamed from the beamline.
X-ray images from the beamline at the Advanced Photon Source, at Argonne National Laboratory, show a ground beetle (Platynust decentis) specimen photographed twice, about 0.5 seconds apart, during the imaging study of insect respiration.
To facilitate the independent reconstruction of the tomographic data by the users, without continuous support from the beamline staff, we have developed a simple graphical user interface (GUI) (Fig. 3).

However, also large quantities of unwanted volatile radioactive species are produced that have to be hindered from contaminating the beamline and vacuum system of the facility.
Since opening nearly a decade ago, the synchrotron's business has boomed: more than 7,000 researchers from academia and industry use the beamlines for their experiments, helped by 500 specialist staff.
Most of the early results from these beamlines have been on the inhomogeneous electronic structures of 2D materials, such as graphene (Fig. 2) [65 68].
