The turnpike is open from Exits 1 to 10. 24 small rail cars were moved by the tidal surge onto the elevated roadway on the New Jersey turnpike, northbound side, around Exit 12. Cranes are working to remove these railcars.
The turnpike was closed from Exits 8A to 12 for more than five hours as state troopers and turnpike maintenance workers used brooms to shovel quarters, dimes and nickels into plastic buckets.
A section of the Garden State Parkway from Exits 102 to 120, for instance, is becoming known as the Silicon Parkway because of the growth of high-tech companies in towns along the route, among them Holmdel, Eatontown and West Long Branch.
