The estimated average of harvestable biomass for bioenergy (sawlog operation + silvicultural treatment) that can be extracted from a broad vegetation group ranged from 11.0 t∙ha−1 in the dry woodlands dominated by ironbarks, mainly on sandstone and weathered rocks to as high as 43.2 t∙ha−1 in the wet tall open forest dominated by Eucalyptus grandis or E. saligna (Table 5).
Continental gross primary production estimates derived from remote sensing were higher than corresponding estimates derived from a dynamic vegetation model.
We used data from a repeat vegetation survey on five alpine summits and measured plant height, leaf area, leaf dry matter content and specific leaf area (SLA) for every species recorded in the surveys.
