Subsequent reports and analysis such as that from David Hsieh, a technology analyst, suggest that the iPad mini is selling better than the fourth generation iPad.
Companies with large databases, including manufacturers, financial services firms and search engines like Google could benefit from the technology, said Joseph Unsworth, a technology analyst at the research firm Gartner.
"All of the best companies are being forced into setting up sites in Europe or Japan, where they have working test beds to proceed with critical development," said Mark R. Anderson, a technology analyst who recently returned from touring northern Europe.
"The battle has shifted from Microsoft against Apple to Apple against Google," said Tim Bajarin, a technology analyst who has been following Apple since 1981.
"The company is basically saying that they see opportunities from their end because they think they're undervalued," said Nick Agostino, a technology analyst with Research Capital in Toronto.
"It's a risk," said Colin W. Gillis, a technology analyst at BGC Financial.
Ian Robertson, a technology analyst at Seymour Pierce, said: "They are taking money out of graphics and investing it into other areas like networking technologies, but it is far from clear if real returns will emerge from those investments".
